I am now George Will’s biggest fan since he publicly called out Donald Trump as a “bloviating ignoramus.” Here’s what he said:
ABC News’ George Will criticized Donald Trump’s role in Mitt Romney’s campaign on Sunday’s “This Week,” calling the real estate mogul a ”bloviating ignoramus.”
Trump endorsed Romney in the Republican presidential race in February. He is scheduled to appear with Romney at a May 29 fundraiser in Las Vegas, even as the Romney campaign refutes his claims that President Obama was not born in the U.S. Trump recently raised his birther views again in a new interview.
On Sunday, “This Week” moderator Jake Tapper wondered if Trump hurt Romney’s efforts to convince voters to “take him seriously.”
“I do not understand the cost benefit here,” Will lamented. “The costs are clear. The benefit — what voter is gonna vote for [Romney] because he is seen with Donald Trump. The cost of appearing with this bloviating ignoramus is obvious it seems to me.” His fellow panel members laughed at the remark.
Will continued, “Donald Trump is redundant evidence that if your net worth is high enough, your IQ can be very low and you can still intrude into American politics. Again, I don’t understand the benefit. What is Romney seeking?”
Even better, Trump struck back by saying:
Trump jumped on Twitter to lash out against Will, writing that “George Will may be the dumbest(and most overrated) political commentator of all time. If the Republicans listen to him, they will lose.”
The Birther also said that Will totally “’bombed’ at The Mar-a-Lago Club. I was there to watch. He was embarrassed and no longer likes Donald Trump.” You should know that Will appeared there in 1995. The multi-bankrupt Mr. Trump had to dig down to come up with that one.
Don, for what it’s worth I don’t like you either.
Dear Jeff,
Regardless of whether Trump is bloviating or not,
there are very suspicious irregularities with the digital copy of the POTUS birth certificate that he released. I am in the computing field and this kind of stuff looks to be human document manipulation (read fraud). Additionally the published bio from the 1990′s that said he was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia adds more credence to questioning the documentation.
Rather than repeat what investigative work has already been done, I will refer to this link…

And also a link to the Acton & Dystel publisher document:
http://www.examiner.com/article/publisher-s-1991-booklet-says-barack-obama-was-born-kenya
This is very troubling.
It makes no difference where he was born if his mother was American, which she was.
Jeff, what do you mean? i know the rule, i agree, but if this was a fabricated document then on what planet does that make no difference? the Constitutionality is clear, so why not be clear and honest about it? we know the answer to that …
If a US citizen has a child born abroad, that child is considered to be born in the US even though the place of birth is in a foreign country. For the purposes of this rule, the child is a natural born US citizen. Otherwise children of US citizens born to families posted abroad would not be eligible to be president? The original rule may have had more to do with keeping foreigners (i.e., Brits) from being president. Remember, even though Washington and Jefferson were born in America, they were British citizens when they were born.
As far as I know, the document is good. And I know what he said. But it’s up to the Birthers to disprove it.
as i said: “i know the rule, i agree … the Constitutionality is clear.”
and birthers have no chance, far larger lies have been concealed for decades.
he is raising money. i like Will, but has he ever had to raise money? has he ever attempted to dethrone a messiah?
no.
i don’t love Trump, but i take him at face value. he is who he is, what’s the point in fighting it. he is amusing and from what i am told, a nice guy who plays up an act. he is hollywood now.
the risk to Romney is associating himself with The Donald and the birther stuff (totally different but intersting topic), granted, but the reward is $$$. Will left that part out, from what i read here.
i’d add that Obama associated himself, albeit earlier in life, with far worse people. not even a horse race, not within even a country mile.
and yet he raised plenty of money and somehow got himself elected.
whoever thinks this little fundraiser will matter in 4 months in the heat of the campaign may also be an ignoramus.
Jeff, i know this is not your point; to which i do not disagree. but a little realism from Will, please. the view from the cheap seats is a just a wee bit different than the one seen while on the field. money talks, BS walks, period.
frankly, i’m just a bit tired of people who talk for a living.
Trump is not a serious person. His whole candidacy was a publicity stunt. His ideas were populist trash. He did more harm than good while politicking. George Will is a very bright man and usually has something to say that is well thought out. Not being a conservative, I don’t agree with everything he says, but he is very good at pointing out the absurdities of politics. Trump is one pig I wouldn’t want to kiss.
Jeff, we don’t disagree on very much at all.
but what does “serious” mean? define it, please. is a person who has talked for a living more “serious” than one who has stuck his neck out, in success and failure, and taken a shot. everyone knew his candidacy was a stunt, so what? how serious is that postion now anyway, the guy in office now has done NOTHING his entire life.
forgive me for not giving a damn about what Will has to say. who is he anyway, a professional talker, not a do-er. he’s never been in the ring in his entire life.
Well, I think he is an intellectual and scholar. So was Mises and Hayek. I usually disagree (mostly) with Conservatives, and while I think he’s not always right, I respect his views because they are well thought out. I can’t say that of a Krugman or a Trump.
we have a fundamental disagreement on the worthiness of being an intellectual or a scholar, i understand your point though.
have a great weekend, as always thanks for the thoughtful writings.
Thanks, Doug. Ditto.
“…George Will is a very bright man…”
So is 1590 Ben Bernanke.
Both Ben and George are shills for The System. ‘Brightness’ may have no relationship to morality.
Jeff, Obama should produce his transcripts, just as ‘Chimp’ Bush did, so we can see whether he was registered as a foreign student, or not.
How else could he have traveled to Pakistan in ’81, when it was illegal for U.S. citizens.
Get past your blinders, man, and quit being awed by I.Q./brightness.
